Bryn Curt James Hammond
Bryn Curt James Hammond [1] [2] [3] [4][5]is a British film critic[6][7][8], author and true crime biographer. Bryn [9] [10]is best known for GoreZone Magazine[11] [12] [13]and true crime biographies of contemporary entertainers such as A Case for Murder: Brittany Murphy Files [14] [15], Anna Nicole Smith Files[16] and Aaliyah Files[17]. He has also written the book The Complete History of The Howling,released on 12 May, 2018 at the Edinburgh Horror Con[18][19].
Writing Career[edit]
Bryn’s book A Case for Murder: Brittany Murphy Files gained popularity because of his unique style of journalism, dismissing fevered conspiracy theories and laying down the bare facts of Murphy’s final months. Now magazine called Brittany Murphy Files an “explosive, tell-all,”[20] and LordanARTS [21] placed the book 9th in his top ten book releases of 2016. In August 2016 Bryn was interviewed for Heat Magazine (Issue 897), when he told the weekly magazine, “I believe 100 per cent Brittany was murdered. They found ten heavy metals in her bloodstream...She was poisoned and it wasn’t self-inflicted.”[22] The Complete History of The Howling released in 2018 also received high praise for Bryn’s style of writing. Nerdly[23] wrote, “Bryn’s writing style and sharp sense of humour which gives the book a natural flow.”
Film Career[edit]
In 2005 Bryn stepped into the director’s chair and directed The Summer of the Massacre [24] [25]. The film was released by Dead of Night in 2006 in the UK and by Midnight Releasing in 2008[26] in the USA. Midnight Releasing later rereleased the film in a 50 Film box set from its sister company Pendulum Pictures as part of the Decrepit Crypt of Nightmares 50 Movie Pack and in 2017 on VOD. Bryn’s debut feature film was also adapted into a book by Gary Charles, titled Hammerhead[27] after the lead villain. The Summer of The Massacre[28] was panned by critics; Daily Grindhouse [29] wrote, “I find Hammond’s lack of attention to his craft personally offensive, and can only hope that he’s vastly improved his efforts since. Frankly, he has nowhere to go but up. Stay far away.” Bryn and his film The Summer of The Massacre was later covered in the paperback Merchants of Menace: The Business of Horror Cinema[30] written by Richard Nowell[31], Nowell labelled Bryn “infamous!” [32]
Other work[edit]
As a result of Bryn’s work within the horror industry Bryn has been given special thanks for his support and help on various movies. These include 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams, Won Ton Baby!, Animal Soup and Gutterballs[33].
Bryn has also appeared as himself on various ‘Best of TV’ shows and also appeared in Best Worst Movie[34], released in 2009 by Area 23a, which takes an in-depth look at the cult horror movie Troll 2.
