The Danish Operations Research Association (DORS; in Danish: Dansk Selskab for Operationsanalyse) is a professional non-profit association for the promotion and dissemination of the scientific field of Operations Research in Denmark.[1] DORS was created in 1962 with the dual purpose of promoting the development within the different branches of operations research, and work for its application within different problem domains. The association is a member of the European umbrella organization, the Association of European Operational Research Societies (EURO), and of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS).[2]

History[edit]

DORS was founded on August 21st 1962, inspired by the First International Conference on Operations Research in Oxford, England in 1957, where Denmark attended.[3] DORS joined IFORS the following year, in 1963.

Governance[edit]

The society is managed by a board consisting of up to ten members. The board should always have a President, a Vice President, a Secretary, a Treasurer, and an Editor. Board members elected sit for two years and election for half of the board is held annualy at the associations general Assembly.[4] DORS is also registered as a voluntary association in the Danish Central Business Register. [5]

Membership[edit]

DORS offers membership to both organizations and individuals. Currently (2018), the society has 20 organizations and 257 individuals as members. Thirteen of the member organizations are companies, seven are academic institutes, and three are governmental authorities. A majority of the organizations are active in the domain of transportation and logistics, but other areas such as, e.g., energy, health care and consulting, are represented as well.[6]

Publications[edit]

Together with the Swedish Operations Research Association, DORS publishes the ORbit magazine twice a year.[7]

Conference[edit]

DORS organize one conference every year - Application Of Optimization (AOO) to show by example the use of Operations Research in the industry and allow all members to network. The conference is open for everyone to attend.

In 2013, the conference was organized in co-operation with the Swedish Operations Research Association and the Norwegian OR Society (link) as the joint conference SOAK (Svenska OperationsanalysKonferensen in Swedish) and NOS6 (The 6th Nordic Optimization Symposium) at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg. The conference attracted approximately 80 participants.
