Danita Johnson Hughes is an American healthcare industry executive, professional speaker, author, columnist and television commentator.[1]

Career[edit]

Danita Johnson Hughes is a certified trainer and speaker and is a member of the International Advisory Board of The Professional Woman Network and the John Maxwell Team. Dr. Hughes is the author of Power from Within: Discovering What You Already Have to Live Successfully, Influencing Today's Youth: Shaping the Behaviors, Expectations, and Aspirations of Tomorrow's Leaders,[2] The Unapologetic Woman: Leading with Power and Confidence,[3] and a contributing author for Becoming the Professional Woman. She also delivers seminar presentations and keynotes along with being a regular columnist for the Post Tribune Newspaper.

Additionally, Danita Johnson Hughes is President and CEO of Edgewater Systems,[4] a comprehensive health care provider specializing in behavioral health and primary care.[5] She is the only African-American female President/CEO of an Indiana Division of Mental Health certified Mental Health Center in the state of Indiana.[6]

Hughes is originally from Gary, Indiana and attended Gary West Side High School.[7] She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana University Northwest in Public Administration.[8] She continued her education earning another master's degree in Social Service Administration and a graduate certificate in Health Administration and Policy from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in Human Services from Walden University, Minneapolis.[9]
