Dantuluri or Dantaluri (Telugu: దంతలూరి, Daṃtalūri) is a surname of the ... to be known as Danthuluri and Gunturi (as they migrated from Guntur district). is a surname of the Telugu Kshatriya clan who were descendents of the Kota Vamsa a clan of Eastern Chalukyas.

"Daṃta or Danta" in Telugu means Ivory of tooth and "ūru" in Telugu means a village. Hence Daṃtalūri means "Person from a place where Ivory is abundantly found.

History[edit]

From inscriptions Dantuluri Gannabhupala is assumed to be the first King of Danthuluri family of main branch Eastern chalukyas after his family moved from Dharanikota in 13th century. After ruling for several years Danthuluri family finally moved and settled in Bhimavaram, where they came to be known as Danthuluri and Gunturi (as they migrated from Guntur district).

Inscriptions[edit]

King Dantuluri Gannabhupala of Kota lineage was mentioned as ruling the tracts about Dharanikota about 1400 AD.

Famous Telugu poet Srinatha wrote Dhananjaya Vijayam and dedicated it to Dhantuluri Gannabhupala of Kota lineage.[1]
