Darkseid is a fictional character portrayed by Ray Porter via motion capture in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) media franchise, based on the DC Comics supervillain of the same name.
Creation and development[edit]
The character was first introduced in the comics in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen in December 1970. Darksied is the leader of the New Gods of Apokolips, possessing abilities such as superhuman strength, stamina, durability, genius-level intellect, flight, telekinesis, telepathy, matter and energy manipulation, immortality, invulnerability, and inter-dimensional travel.
Following the release of Man of Steel (2013), director Zack Snyder had envisioned a DC cinematic universe, which centered around a five-film story arc beginning with Man of Steel, and continuing with Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and a Justice League trilogy. However, due to negative reviews on Batman v. Superman due to it's lack of humour and darkness, the plan was scrapped. In the original plan, Darkseid was set to be the main antagonist of Justice League 2 after being teased in the first Justice League film. Similar to Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the sequel would have shown Darkseid win and Earth being terraformed into the Knightmare sequence as seen in Bruce's dream during Batman v. Superman. In the third Justice League, The Flash would have travelled back in time to avert Darkseid's new Apokolips by preventing Superman's fall into Darkseid's command while Batman would save Lois Lane from Darkseid by sacrificing himself. Following this, Superman would become the leader of the Justice League and unite the modern allies of Earth including the United States Army Special Forces, Atlanteans led by Aquaman, Amazons led by Wonder Woman, and the Green Lantern Corps against Darkseid in one final battle.
Appearances[edit]
Darkseid was included for the 2021 director's cut of Justice League (2017), in which during the climax of the film, a portal opens just before the Mother Boxes can merge, a portal to Apokolips opens and Darkseid, alongside DeSaad, and Granny Goodness can be seen. Flash manages to stop this from happening, the Justice League are able to kill one of Darkseid's servants Steppenwolf who attempted to invade Earth. Afterwards, Darkseid tells his enforcers to ready the armada for another invasion.
