Early Life
Born in 1959 in Topeka, Kansas, Rhoades was adopted out of the hospital a week after birth by Raymond and Wilma Rhoades. The fifth child out of six Rhoades children and the only one that was adopted, Rhoades was told by his mother, Wilma: "The rest of the kids I was stuck with, but you, I hand picked!" This fostered a great sense of self-worth and family structure.
Raymond, a veteran of World War II, later would go on to have a 16 year career with the Denver Sheriff's Department as a Deputy while Wilma maintained the household throughout Rhoades' Colorado childhood and adolescence of the 1960s and 70s.
Rhoades' love of writing was derived from an early age creating stories and transposing them onto Big Chief tablets and continued on as he attended a private school, Belleview High School in Westminster, Colorado where he attributes his love of story to his history teacher, Ralph Friedly. Mr. Friedly frequently read stories to supplement the class such as Ambrose Bierce's An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge and O.Henry's The Ransom of Red Chief. Rhoades had a brief career in broadcasting as a radio DJ for five years at KPOF in Denver, CO and KHRT in Minot, ND. Rhoades attended Northwest Bible College graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Theology and Education, Lee University and Pentecostal Theological Seminary to work on a master's degree in Clinical Psychology.
Personal Life
Upon entering the ministry after college, Rhoades and his family served as Senior pastors to a number of churches around the country before returning to his boyhood home of Colorado, where the entire family presently resides.
Rhoades has been married to Jeanie since 1981. As of November 2016, they have 5 grown children and 11 Grandchildren with more on the way. His children are Tara Powers, Stephanie Kelley, Tredessa Faaland, Rocky Rhoades, and Stormie Rhoades.
