Linda iLham Barto is an American author, illustrator and veteran[2] of US Air Force. She is known for her spiritual and philosophical writings and paintings. [3] [4] She was selected by The National Association of Professional and Executive Women (USA) as its 2010 Woman of the Year in the arts category. [5]
Early life[edit]
Barto was born into a Christian family in Hickory, North Carolina in 1949. She graduated St. Stephen’s High School in 1967. She joined the United States Air Force in 1970 and served 13 years.[6] served During her military service, she met and married Thomas S. Barto who also served. In 1999, she and her husband became Muslims after following the inspiration of a series of dreams that Linda had. She and Tom went on a spiritual adventure that led them to say shahada (Muslim confession of faith) in Great Okba Mosque in Kairouan, Tunisia.[7][8] [9]

Serving the United States Air Force and North Carolina Air National Guard Barto was awarded several medals and honors.
