David Bookspan (born January 24th 1958) is an American-born entrepreneur and venture capitalist. He is Founding Partner of Dreamit Ventures, Founder of Monetate inc., and was Founder and CEO of MarketSpan Inc. (now LexisNexis CourtLink).[1] [2]

Early Life[edit]

Born in Mt Vernon, New York. Bookspan dropped out of high school to attend college. Despite the favorable ratio of women to men at Vassar College in the mid 70’s, Bookspan told the admissions committee he needed telephone numbers not statistics. He earned his A.B. in psychology in 1978 graduating with double honors. He then enrolled in the Georgetown University Law Center where he was the editor of the Law Review earning his J.D. in 1982.

DreamIt Ventures[edit]

David is a Founding Partner of DreamIt Ventures, which is a top startup accelerator. In three months DreamIt catapults idea and early-stage businesses to market.[3][4][5][6] DreamIt has launched over 178 companies since 2008 with the mission of “paying it forward,” for both entrepreneurs and investors. In 2014 DreamIt was the fifth most active seed stage investor.[7] Bookspan has been and continues to be a mentor to numerous startups and entrepreneurs. He is an avid supporter of the lean startup method, and encourages DreamIt companies to start, stay, and grow in their respective cities.[8][9][10]


Monetate ,Inc.[edit]

In 2007 David Co-Founded Monetate, Inc. with David Brussin. Monetate is the global leader in providing multi-channel personalization to the world’s best brands.[11] The Monetate platform has an interface which allows marketers to create, test, and launch real-time customized e-commerce experiences with little or no IT support. Monetate influences billions of dollars in revenue every year for world-class companies like Macy’s, QVC, Office Depot, Patagonia, Sur la Table, The North Face and hundreds of other market leaders.[12][13]

Marketspan[edit]

MarketSpan’s CaseStream service aggregated and enhanced court docket information, creating new research tools and marketing opportunities for legal professionals. MarketSpan was acquired in 2000 and CaseStream is now LexisNexis CourtLink. [14]

Wolf, Block, Schorr, and Solis-Cohen[edit]

After Graduating from Georgetown David practiced as a litigator, becoming partner at Wolf, Block, Schorr, and Solis-Cohen. In 1997 David left and co-founded his first company, MarketSpan, Inc. with Mark Pankhurst.

Personal Life[edit]

David is an avid baseball enthusiast, even playing semi-professional Baseball in the Spanish-Federation of Baseball Leagues where he retired before his outfielders got hurt. David splits his time between Philadelphia and Stockbridge, MA. He enjoys skiing, traveling, really any activity that involves spending time with his two sons.
