Businessman and philanthropist

David Colakovic is a businessman, philanthropist and supporter of local sport.

He is best known as the founder, owner and chief executive of Eco-Power Group, a portfolio of service companies in the waste management, recycling, engineering and equipment hire industries.

Colokavic is an active member of the sporting and charitable communities in his hometown, Doncaster. He supports Doncaster Rovers FC and Doncaster Dons RLFC, which play in a stadium named for the Eco-Power Group. The Eco-Power Group is also a namesake of the Grandstand at Doncaster Racecourse, a leading venue for sports and culture in the North of England.

Eco-Power Group

David Colokavic founded the Eco-Power Group in 2013.

His first venture under the Eco-Power Group umbrella was a skip hire firm serving Doncaster and its immediate environs. The enterprise quickly grew into a collection of specialized firms providing a range of services across the North of England. Today, it reports an annual turnover of approximately £60 million, making it a significant player in the region’s environmental services industry.

The Eco-Power Group’s subsidiaries include:

  • Eco-Power Skips, the business that launched Colokavic’s environmental services career and still a core part of the enterprise
  • Eco-Power Civil Engineering, a construction services firm that also provides specialized equipment hire services
  • Eco-Power Wood Fuels, a provider of kiln-dried firewood across Northern England

Eco-Power Racing, a training facility for racehorses with 30 operational stables (including 20 primary stables and 10 overflows)

  • Eco-Power Plant Hire, which supplies low-emissions construction equipment to project sites

The Eco-Power Group also operates material processing facilities in South Yorkshire and Humberside that dry and sort waste material to produce solid recovered fuel, refuse-derived fuel and biomass products to feed waste-to-resource operations across Northern England.

Colokavic continues to diversify and expand the Eco-Power Group’s business activities. Notable initiatives in progress today include two expansion phases of Eco-Power Racing, which is located down the road from the globally renowned Langton Wold Gallops. The Eco-Power enterprise has earned praise from local officials and labor leaders for its commitment to hiring within the community, providing apprenticeships to youth and people in job transition, and prioritizing investment across economically disadvantaged cities and towns in South Yorkshire.

Sporting ventures

David Colokavic is active in Doncaster’s sporting community. He earned the naming rights to the home of Doncaster Rovers FC and Doncaster RLFC, now known as Eco-Power Stadium, in 2021. He is an avid supporter of local amateur and club sport, such as Rossington Main FC and Doncaster Belles, as well as youth boxing and golf.

Through Eco-Power, Colokavic also holds the naming rights to Doncaster Racecourse’s main grandstand. The racecourse has become an increasingly important venue for sport and culture in the north-east of England, hosting national football matches (including England Women’s U-23s) and performances by British and international musical artists such as The Killers, Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott.

Charitable activities

David Colokavic supports a number of charitable causes across the North of England through the Eco-Power Foundation.

The foundation’s activities have included fundraising through the National 3 Peaks Challenge, the #Walkingsbrilliant campaign for mental health awareness, and charitable sporting events to support individuals facing medical difficulties.

Separately, Colokavic supports the Eve Merton Dreams Trust, a charity that provides support and experiences for families stricken by terminal illness.

A self-described family man, Colokavic lives in the Doncaster area. He is an avid golfer and a fan of boxing, racing and football.
