David Alastair Morgan-Hewitt (born August 1962) is an English hotelier best known as the managing director of the Goring Hotel in London, England.[1] He is the Honorary Catering Advisor to the army[2] and a freeman of the City of London.

Morgan-Hewitt studied history at Durham University, where he graduated with a BA in 1986. During his time at Durham he was President of Dining Club, 'The Ambassadors'—and once returned to continue a function despite finding out his flat was on fire.[3]

Morgan-Hewitt found brief international exposure when a picture of him featuring Queen Elizabeth II became an internet meme.[4]

Professional life[edit]

In 1990 Morgan-Hewitt joined The Goring. By 1996, he had been made General Manager, before going on to become Managing Director in 2006.[5]

In 2011, Morgan-Hewitt asked the Royal Family whether there was "anything we could do to help", in relation to the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton. As a result, Kate Middleton chose to spend the night before the wedding at The Goring. A reception was also held there.[6]

In 2013, Queen Elizabeth II granted The Goring a royal warrant of appointment, which Morgan-Hewitt is responsible for maintaining.[7][8] Morgan-Hewitt has earned a reputation for providing exemplary hospitality, and in 2015 the readers of Luxury Travel Advisor voted him “Top General Manager Worldwide.”[9]

Morgan-Hewitt is Honorary Catering Advisor Defence, advising the Army, RAF and Navy on matters to do with their catering arrangements for their personnel.[10] In addition he is a Master Innholder, Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Innholders[11] and Ambassador for the English National Ballet.[12]
