David S. Cassetti is the 29th and current Mayor of Ansonia, Connecticut. Cassetti, a local businessman, ran for Mayor in 2013 and defeated incumbent Democrat James DellaVolpe who was running for his 8th term in office.[1]

Cassetti was sworn in for a second term in November, 2015 after defeating Democrat Edward J. Adamowski in the election by a tally of 3,095 votes to 803[2]

Cassetti was sworn in for a third term in November, 2017 after defeating Democrat Tarek Raslan in the election by a tally of 2,959 votes to 1,162.[3]

Personal[edit]

In 1979, Cassetti graduated from Ansonia's Emmett O'Brien Technical High School, and is the only mayor to have done so. [4]

Cassetti was a youth boxing champion. He won the Connecticut Amateur Middleweight title in 1982 and the New England Amateur Middleweight title in 1983. He retired with a 49-6 record.[5]

Positions[edit]

Since taking office in 2013, one of Cassetti's primary focuses has been the revitalization of Ansonia. This has included reclaiming abandoned factories,[6] working with other officials such as US Senator Chris Murphy and the EPA to clean up toxic brownfields, [7][8] and new construction to revitalize the downtown.[9]
