David Schwartz (born c. 1994) is an American politician who serves as the Vice Chair of the Brooklyn Democratic Committee and Democratic District Leader for the 48th District of the New York State Assembly. He is a Democrat. The district includes all of Borough Park and portions of Midwood, in Brooklyn.

Early life[edit]

Schwartz is originally from Williamsburg, New York and attended the United Talmudic Academy in Kiryas Joel.[1]

Career[edit]

Schwartz first got involved in politics at age 18 when he volunteered on Lincoln Restler's campaign for District Leader in Williamsburg.[1] His interest in politics came as result of learning "the importance of civic engagement, helping your community and helping others" while at Yeshiva.[2] At age 20, he began working for State Assemblyman, Dov Hikind as his communication's assistant.[1]

In 2016, Schwartz ran for Democratic District Leader from the 48th district of the New York State Assembly to replace Hikind, who was retiring.[1] Schwartz received endorsements from Hikind, Public Advocate Tish James, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and City Councilmen Brad Lander and Carlos Menchaca. Schwartz was elected uncontested.[3] With his election, Schwartz became the youngest District Leader in Brooklyn history and the first Hasidic District Leader since the 1980s.[3]

In 2020, Schwartz was elected as the Vice Chair of the Brooklyn Democratic Committee.[2] Schwartz served as the Jewish Community Outreach Director for Andrew Yang's campaign for Mayor of New York City.[4]
