David William Van Slingerland (born January 17, 1962) is a Canadian businessman, entrepreneur and philanthropist. Since 2007, he has been the CEO of Sterling Industries, a contract medical manufacturer based in Vaughan, Ontario, and Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Early life and education[edit]
Van Slingerland was born in London, Ontario, to Jocelyn Van Slingerland (née Pulsford), from St. Thomas, Ontario, of English and Swedish descent, and Jacobus Van Slingerland, from Den Haag, Holland, of Dutch and French descent.[1][2]
In 1981, Van Slingerland received a scholarship to the University of Western Ontario, where he played basketball, graduating with a B.S. in Computer Science.[3]
Career[edit]
Van Slingerland served as a Vice President (VP) at Manulife Financial and Shoppers Drug Mart.[4] During the COVID-19 Pandemic, "Mr. Van Slingerland and his team worked with all levels of government to design and manufacture more than 30 million class 1 medical device face shields, which, in turn, created 250 new jobs and helped save many lives."[5]
Van Slingerland was named one of the Top 25 Healthcare Technology Leaders of 2022.[6]
Personal life[edit]
Van Slingerland is married to Ronitt Van Slingerland (née Katz), and has two sons[7] and a daughter.[8][9] The family are active in the philanthropic community in the Greater Toronto Region.[8][5]
In 2022, Van Slingerland was awarded with one of Canada's highest civic honors, being inducted into the Order of Vaughan.[5]
