Davood Marzara (داود مرزارا; born 1942) is a Canadian writer.

Early life[edit]

Davood Marzara was born in 1942 in Tehran, Iran. After graduating from secondary school in Iran, Marzara attended the Faculty of Communications Science of Tehran and graduated with a degree in Management. He was active in writing articles and theatre during his time at college.

Career[edit]

Marzara worked for 20 years in the Ministry of Job and Social affairs in Iran. As an expert in statistics, he was employed by the ministry of job and social affairs where he travelled throughout Iran to study lifestyles in employment markets with regard to worker skills, wages, working hours and unemployment affairs. He did research in the field of industrial production and services. He has also written for Farsi language publications including Shahrgon[1], Hamyaari media[2], Shahrvand, Farhang BC paper, Art and Literature Society, and Paivand.

Immigration to Canada[edit]

He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1986. Now retired, Marzara worked as a business person and accountant in the Greater Vancouver, British Columbia. For many years, he wrote for various journals in Canada and in other countries, specializing in essays and short stories. He remains active in the Persian community.[3]

Books[edit]

Marzara has written 6 books[4]: Three short stories, one quote and minimal, and one translation of story collections (My life is a joke) from famous western writers such as Ernest Hemingway, Sheila Heti, William Carlos Williams, Jensen Beach, William Butler Yeats, Dinah Jefferies, Michael Ondaatje, Donald Barthelme, and Vladislava Kolosova. He has also translated one novel (RU) by Kim Thuy, with a friend.
