Day Translations, Inc. is an international language translation and interpreting company founded in 2007 by Sean Patrick Hopwood. As of June 1, 2013, Sean Patrick Hopwood serves as the president of Day Translations. The company's headquarters is situated in Tampa, Florida, United States, with additional physical offices in various cities across the globe, including London, United Kingdom, and Hong Kong. The company relies on a 100% remote employee staff.[1]

History[edit]

Sean Patrick Hopwood, the founder of Day Translations[2], holds a degree in Spanish and international business, along with an M.B.A. from the University of South Florida. Fluent in English, Spanish, French, Arabic, German, Portuguese, and Hebrew, Hopwood[3] initially provided translation and interpreter services for entities such as the Spanish-speaking law firm Joyce and Reyes, hospitals, and academic institutions.

Inspired by his part-time work and driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, Hopwood identified a significant need for translation services globally[4]. Seeking guidance from Maria Clara Yepes and other USF Small Business Development Center consultants, he laid the foundation for Day Translations in 2007[5]. The company's title, derived from the surname of Hopwood's grandfather, Francis Day, reflects the family encouragement to pursue his passion for languages.

During the initial phase, Day Translations established domestic offices in the U.S., including New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles, following the opening of the headquarters in Tampa. The company later expanded internationally[6], opening offices in locations such as London, Frankfurt, and Hong Kong in response to growing demand[7].

In 2013, Day Translations[8] announced opening an office in Dallas, Texas, and expanded its presence in Tampa. The company[9] also engaged in community initiatives, supporting projects such as providing soccer balls for child soccer clubs in Tampa and offering interpreter services during crises in Egypt.[10]

In 2018, Day Translations was included on Inc. magazine’s 5000 fastest-growing companies list. In the same year, Sean Hopwood[11], the company’s CEO[12] was recognized as one of the best CEOs for women and best CEOs for diversity by Comparably, a website where employees anonymously review companies[13].

Products[edit]

In 2018, Day Translations[14] launched Day Interpreting, a phone interpreting mobile app that promises to connect[15] its users with on-demand[16] interpreters[17] 24/7.

In 2019[18], the company launched a new branch, dedicated to offering business[19] process outsourcing services, called DayBPO.

In 2023, Day Translations released its Smartwatch app[20], which is functional across iOS and Android devices. The app easily equips clients to contact translation[21] and interpreting[22] service providers on their smartwatches[23].

In 2024, Day Translations launched The Linguist Magazine[24], an industry-specific[25] quarterly publication connecting linguists[26] across the world with relevant and up-to-date news[27] on linguistic information[28] and advancements within the sector.
