Deathworx is an American nu metal band formed Detroit, Michigan in 2021 by vocalist and guitarist Grayson Rupp[1][2] and bassist Noah Dombroski[3] (son of Sponge and The Lucid singer Vinnie Dombroski). The band is often compared to Taproot.

Deathworx's discography[4] consists of one studio album and one single. Deathworx's most popular song was the only single for their debut album "Deathworx".[5][6] The song was titled "Gasoline"[7][8] and ended up being Deathworx's number one track.[9][10]

History

The band was founded in August of 2021 in Detroit and started recording demos. In September 2021 Deathworx released a demo album[11][12] on the Retaliator Records label, released on Decemeber 22, 2021. The album was recorded from September 1, 2021 to September 6, 2021. The album consisted of eight tracks that contained no lyrics. The album was copyrighted by Retaliator Records on December 30, 2021. The album was aborted in January 2021, the reason being that the album wasn't the style that they where looking for, they then went on to venture new genre ideas.

In 2022, Deathworx[13] released a single under the title of "Darkness Within"[14] The single was released on April 9, 2022. The single was a song to their demo EP that was self-titled, released on January 1, 2022, on Retaliator Records. The EP consisted of six tracks, trying out the death metal and nu metal genre put together, and that ended up being the Deathworx genre they where looking for. The EP was unreleased on January 29, 2023, and went on to record their debut self-titled album.

In March 2024 Deathworx released their debut album, Deathworx, also known as the self-titled album. The album was recorded in Rupp's record label from late 2023 to March 2024. "Get Out", released by Deathworx on February 12, 2024, was originally released on April 9, 2022, and had a totally different sound in 2022, being more of a alternative metal sound. In 2023, Deathworx gave the nu metal sound. Agreed on the genre in late 2023, Rupp decided, and agreed with Dombroski to do more nu metal sound with drop B tuning for their debut.[15]

Musical style

Deathworx's musical style is considerably different from Rupp's first project (solo). Rupp was he obsessed with alternative rock. He liked the alternative rock sound, but the nu metal and alternative metal had always been his favorite. He describes Deathworx as the band he he always wanted since he was young. He made a particular point about the fact that he is the guitarist and the vocalist of the band and that he has wanted to be a guitarist and vocalist, because he wants to "show I have talent, instead of just words coming out of my mouth."[16]

Deathworx's musical style can be described as a blend of nu metal and groove metal, featuring a hint of industrial metal and death metal. Rupp was pleased with the recordings from their debut album.[17]
