He dropped out of his Graduation to pursue his passion for Music and as of now he is a member of Kalamkaar label and worked with very renowned Music labels such as Zee Music [1] and ALTBalaji[2]
Early life and education
Gagandeep Singh also known as Deep Kalsi is a singer, producer, and songwriter who is currently based in New Delhi, India[3]. Born on 6th November 1996, he is the only son of Amarjeet Singh Kalsi and Parmjeet Kaur. He studied in Guru Harkrishan Public School (GHPS) where he got to know about Bohemia through his friends and released his first track in 2010. After school, he decided to opt for commerce and decided to join Delhi University in 2013 for their Bachelor of Arts course (B.A). He dropped out during the second year and started his career as a rapper and songwriter. Deep Kalsi always considered writing as a way for him to express his feelings and is very hardworking and a perfectionist.
Career
He started his hustle in 2010 when he created a crew called D-freakers along with three other members.[4] They released a lot of singles and they did pretty well at that time. D-Freakers started when Deep’s school friend introduced him to other people that shared the same taste and genre of music. Deep Kalsi released his first song when he was thirteen which was mixed and mastered by his friend's father’s worker who owned a sound engineering kit. In 2010, D-Freakers also closed a gig for Bohemia at Parkland Retreat New Year’s eve party. They all changed paths and D-Freakers broke down later on.
In 2014, Deep joined beat factory academy to learn more about music production, mixing and mastering. In 2015, his dad bought him a Mac so Deep could work on music production and mix and master his own songs. He stayed in Mumbai for one and a half months with a friend where he wanted to explore more into the hip-hop and rap genre along with his friend. He attended a couple of cyphers where some people compared and criticized him. Deep did not let that hold him back and he still continued his journey and made himself better on a daily basis. Deep Kalsi wasn’t able to adapt to the Mumbai culture and surroundings is why he went into depression and had to return back to Delhi.
After many ups and downs, Deep was very demotivated but had his friend Akash by his side who was very supportive and always motivated Deep to try harder and never give up. Deep also has very supportive parents who always were by his side and helped him accomplish his dreams. It took months for him to set his studio at home where he worked day and night to polish his skills and work on his writing.
Then after working hard for years, he was signed by DNH (Dreams and Hustle) artists which is a Delhi based company founded by Ankit Khanna in 2017 where he worked with various artists such as Kr$na, Karma and Harjas. His first song was “Woofer” with Kr$na in 2017. Now he is a part of Kalamkaar which is a label founded by Ankit Khanna and Dilin Nair a.k.a. Raftaar[5]. Raftaar and Ankit helped him make the foundation for his vision and always had his back in whatever dream he wanted to achieve. His first song with Raftaar & Jaz Dhami was “Jean Teri” which was a part of Raftaar’s infamous album Zero to Infinity.[6] Deep Kalsi also wrote and produced the title song for Alt Balaji’s new show, Who’s Your Daddy which released in the year 2020.[2]. He always considered music as a way to express himself and that is what led the journey from Gagandeep Singh to Deep Kalsi.
