The official state star of Delaware is the Delaware Diamond, located in the constellation of Ursa Major (Great Bear), with coordinates of right ascension 9h 40m 58s and declination 48d 11' 05". The star was designated on June 30, 2000.[1] Note that star names such as this that are registered with the International Star Registry, a private company, are not officially recognized by the International Astronomical Union. The latter is the internationally recognized authority for determining astronomical nomenclature.[2]
The star is also known as TYC 3429-697-1, according to the Tycho catalogue. The star has a BV index of .7 indicating that it is a G-class star.
