Delphine Gibson (née Tucker; August 17, 1903 – May 9, 2018)[2] was an American supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in the United States. She became the oldest person in the United States upon the death of Adele Dunlap on February 5, 2017.[3] However, U.S.-born Marie Josephine Gaudette was older than Dunlap, but she lived in Italy from 1958 until her death on July 13, 2017.[4][5] Gibson married Taylor Gibson in January 27, 1928, in Highpoint, North Carolina and the couple had three children — Frank, Moody and Ella. A few years later[6] the family moved to Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania and joined Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Taylor Gibson died in 1980.[7]

Death[edit]

Gibson died on May 9, 2018 in AristaCare at Huntingdon Park (formerly known as Huntingdon Nursing Home) at the age of 114 years, 265 days. She credited good food, her faith in God, and her church for her longevity.[8] Upon her death, Lessie Brown of Ohio became the oldest person living in the United States.
