Delta Psi Chi Fraternity is a fraternity consisting of ten active chapters (known as "Swordsmen") at ten American colleges and universities. Its mission is to create and maintain an enduring society which encourages the sharing of traditions and values, respect for oneself and others, and responsibility to the university and community.

Delta Psi Chi was founded on April 24, 1985, by seven students at University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee with the idea of emphasizing the fraternal and social principles of a brotherhood. It was the first Black Greek-letter organization of its kind to be founded on these grounds, rather than the literary characteristics of the many then-existing societies.

Delta Psi Chi's official colors are Wine Burgundy and Sunshine Gold. Its national headquarters, the Central Office, is in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Delta Psi Chi Fraternity, Inc. was founded in 1985 at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee by seven men with the vision of developing a family of men dedicated to a new brotherhood with focus on academic achievement and community involvement. The seven founding members were Alex Beamon, Andre Joiner, Harold C. Young III, Rafael Reyes, Barry Ward, Denvelt Harris, and Darryl Terry.[1]

Values and the Delta Psi Chi Swordsman[edit]

Delta Psi Chi is founded upon the fraternal aspects of brotherhood and embraces a number of values in its pursuit to establish this brotherhood. These values were first adopted at its founding in 1985.

Their official website states: "Delta Psi Chi is defined by the values which are collectively accepted by its members. The extent to which these values are practiced is the measure of our fraternity; Delta Psi Chi committed to the growth of the individual in a social environment which nurtures integrity, dignity and maturity while enjoying shared experiences and college sociability; and Delta Psi Chi recognizing that academic achievement is fundamental to the development of the individual, stands for intellectual growth and the attainment of human potential."[2]

Delta Psi Chi also embraces the idea of being a true Swordsman.[clarification needed]

Delta Psi Chi offers undergraduate, graduate, and honorary membership to potential members, and its constitution has never contained any clause which either excluded or suggested the exclusion of a man from membership because of color, creed, or national origin.[3]

To be considered for membership, a candidate must have at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. For consideration into Delta Psi Chi on the alumni level, one must possess at least a bachelor's degree or the equivalent of such a degree from an accredited college or university.[4]

Club Delta high school mentoring program[edit]

Club Delta was founded on April 24, 1985 by the Alpha chapter of Delta Psi Chi, under the direction of the founders. The club includes series of activities designed to help young high school students, both male and female, develop their leadership talents. Its goal is to give students the opportunity to prepare themselves for the next level of education through discipline, responsibility, organization, brotherhood and sisterhood.[5]
