Omega Pi Lambda Sorority, Inc. (ΩΠΛ) is a Latina, community service-based Greek-lettered sorority founded University of Wisconsin–Whitewater on March 14, 2023.
History
Omega Pi Lambda Sorority was founded on March 14, 2023, at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater.[1] It was created because of the lack of Latina Greek organizations on campus[1]. The sorority's founding line is known as Xochiquetzal. Its nine Founding Mothers are Marijke Arreola, Aurora Balliett, Catalina Cobos, Itzuri Contreras, Jaquelynn Fernandez, Yadira Foulker, Sabrina Morales, Anna Pineda-Osorio, and Delany Aleman Silva.[1]
The founder's vision was "to create a home for cis and transgender women as well as fem presenting non-binary individuals where they are safe to be themselves, serve the community, and learn about Latin American cultures".[1] Members participate in service activities such as volunteering at the Campus Garden.[2]
Omega Pi Lambda Sorority, Inc. incorporated with the State of Wisconsin on March 14, 2023.[3] Its headquarters are located at 1612 6th Street in Beloit, Wisconsin.[3]
Symbols
The Omega Pi Lambda motto is Siempre Que Haya Amor, Venceremos! or "As long as there is love, we will overcome!”.[1] The sorority's pillars are Excellence, Love, Service and Scholarship.[1] Its colors are white, pink, red, and black.[1] Its flower is the white Dahlia.[1] Its jewels are white moonstone, rose quartz, red onyx, and black fire opal.[1] Its mascot is Culpeo (Andean fox).[1]
Membership
Omega Pi Lambda is open to cis women, transgendered women, and non-binary individuals. Although the organization was founded as a "Latine-interest" (Latina) organization, it is open to all backgrounds.
The Garden is the official interest group of Omega Pi Lambda and educates individuals about the sorority, promotes a commitment to service and academic excellence, and cultivates meaningful relationships among members and prospective members.
Philanthropy
Omega Pi Lambda philanthropies are Save the Children and National Alliance on Mental Illness.[1]
