Demi the Daredevil is an American Art Pop band from El Paso, Texas, formed in 2006 and featuring the current line up of Vocalist Jeff Azar and touring Guitarist Marc Martell. The band was founded by member Jovan Ortiz, and the trio recorded 3 demo cds in high school. Their song “Goosebumps,” was included on ‘Sante Fe Rockers’ Compilation CD. The band played Warped Tour Las Cruces which helped them to gain local notoriety.[1]

In 2009, Martell departed from Demi the Daredevil to work with El Paso bands Subrosa Union and Mystery Schools. Azar returned to University of Texas at Austin, and Jovan Ortiz began to take interest in stand up comedy. On December 4th, 2009 Ortiz suffered an acute attack of meningitis that took his life less than 24 hours. Azar completed Ortiz’s vocals for the band’s first Self-Titled Demi the Daredevil LP, between intermittent psychiatric hospitalizations.[2]

In 2012, Jeff Azar began writing with brother Thomas Azar, who was studying piano performance at Manhattan School of Music. They recorded and released Schizoid in a Moratorium, which was produced by Martel.[3]

In 2013, Jeff Azar connected with producer John McCracken, and the band recorded a 6 song EP at Alta Vista Studios in Austin, Texas. Due to band friction, the group disbanded to other projects, the songs were scrapped, and Jeff Azar recorded and released a new 4 song EP titled Secret Schizoid in October 2016 via John McCracken Music Group and The Orchard.[4] The EP was said to have been written in a teepee in Austin. Azar began reaching an audience on Instagram and was selected to play Houston, Texas Springboard Music Festival out of 2,500 applicants[5].

Azar and Martell reunited for touring and production. Two follow-up singles Change Me and Sly Dog were released independently in 2017.
