Dennis Lau (Chinese: 劉凱彥; pinyin: Liú Kǎiyàn; Jyutping: Lau4 Hoi2 Jin6; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Lâu Khái-gān; born 9 September 1985) is a Malaysian-Chinese electric violinist, pianist, songwriter, and producer based in Kuala Lumpur.
Biography[edit]
Lau was born and raised in Ipoh, where he lived for 8 years before permanently moving to Kuala Lumpur. He began playing the piano at the age of 3, guided by his mother. By 11, he became the youngest in Malaysia to reach Grade 8 in the ABRSM graded piano exam.[1]
Lau started violin lessons at 8 years old. By 15, he obtained the ATCL Diploma and was awarded for his outstanding performance in LTCL and FTCL exams.
After secondary studies, he pursued music further, citing that he was "bad in his academics" and since his interests lay more towards the arts, "music was the only thing" he could "pass".[2]
