Der Panther (Band) (abbreviated as DP, is an anonymous musical project composed of multiple members distributed worldwide. Originally from New York City, London, Madrid and Bogotá, currently based between New York City, Madrid and Los Angeles. There is little information about their real names and persona. In their performance there are contributions from various kinds of musicians but on stage they usually appear as a duo behind a big white canvas. On this canvas they project 3D-Mapping videos and images that mutate with their live performance. The group runs their own record label Evolving Traxs [1] on which they have released their own material.
History[edit]
The Band[edit]
Der Panther is well known for their mysterious performance and polemic appearances. They consider themselves a medium with the music they create and perform, and what seems like a barrier with the audience when playing live behind a white canvas with projections, they actually create an intimate and human connection with the people.
Inspired by a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke, they decided to call themselves Der Panther after performing with different artistic names.
Live Performance[edit]
Throughout their career, Der Panther have been fascinated by light and its nature, behavior and peculiarities. Often taking a cue from the theatre we all live in, their performances include dynamic lights, reflections and videos which create a multimedia experience for the viewer and listener.
Der Panther have shared the stage with Emeralds, Com Truise, John Maus, Holy Other, Fleet Foxes, St. Vincent and more.
Latest Releases[edit]
2015: LUX[edit]
Der Panther released 'LUX' on Primavera Sound's festival label, El Segell on 2015. An album that reflects a creative explosion that defies categorization, where songs like ‘Gecko’, ‘Khan’ and ‘Viscera’ are full of colors and energy, unpredictable twists and movement, combining analog synthesizers with drum recordings, aqueous and muscular bass, and guitars riffs. The band has largely used field recordings and collaborations with several musicians in an anonymous way. Due to the anonymous component of the project, very little information is available and most of details on the recording process of 'LUX' remains as mystery. The album was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Studios in NYC.
2017-2019: new releases[edit]
In January 18, 2017, Evolving Traxs revealed that Der Panther will be releasing one track each month until the end of 2019. A total of 22 new tracks that includes collaboration of several musicians now residing in NYC.
