Derek Peterson (born July 19, 1974) is an American entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of Terra Tech Corp,[1][2] a cannabis-focused agriculture company. In 2016, he was named among the 100 most influential people in Orange County, California by the Orange County Register.[3]
Education and career[edit]
Peterson graduated from Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management.[4] His career in finance included stints at Crowell, Weedon & Co,[5] Wachovia Securities[6] and Morgan Stanley.[7]
He founded Terra Tech in 2010. It was the first publicly traded company to enter the medical marijuana industry.[8] In 2015, it was valued at $100 million.[9]
Controversy[edit]
In 2016, Derek Peterson was denied life insurance by Mutual of Omaha, due to his associations with the cannabis industry.[10]
