Derrick Alain Mapagu (born December 24, 1987) is a Filipino game developer. He is CEO and lead developer of the video game company Most Played Games. In 2016, Mapagu's Flippy Bottle Extreme[1] became the number 1[2] download on Google Play in several countries,[3] attaining two million downloads in just 10 days to overtake Pokémon Go in the number 1 spot.[4]

Career[edit]

Mapagu started his career as game programmer for console games in September 2008, at Kuju Entertainment's Manila studio. When Kuju closed their Manila studio in 2010,.[5] Mapagu found work as a Game Programmer at Game Loft. In 2012 he was promoted to Senior Programmer, and followed by becoming the Senior Producer in 2013 until 2014.[6]

In 2014, Mapagu became the Senior Programmer and Designer at Orangenose Studio. He was then promoted as their Creative Director in 2015.[6]

In 2016, Mapagu worked at Synergy88Digital for a few months, and then decided to create his own company "Most Played Games". He conceptualized the brand with the vision of creating fresh, innovative gameplay that’s accessible to the mass market. Initially, the games developed were heavily influenced by Filipino cultures, such as school rivalry with Make Pana the Blue Eagle[7] & Make Tuka Green Archer , and culture with Make Tusok the Fishball. To reach the vision, Most Played Games started releasing games targeting the mainstream market. In October 2016, Most Played Games released Flippy Bottle Extreme! Flippy Bottle Extreme became a hit in 10 days.[8]
