Destry Damayanti (born 16 December 1963) is an Indonesian economist and central bank official who has served as Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia since 27 July 2026. She has also served as Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia since 7 August 2019.
Destry Damayanti was appointed Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia by Presidential Decree No. 74/P of 2019, dated 29 July 2019. She took the oath of office before the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia on 7 August 2019.[1]
On 27 July 2026, Damayanti became Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia following the resignation of Governor Perry Warjiyo. Her appointment made her responsible for leading the central bank on an interim basis pending the appointment of a permanent governor.
Early life and education
Destry Damayanti was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 16 December 1963. She studied economics at the University of Indonesia, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in economics. She later earned a Master of Science degree from Cornell University in New York.
Career
Destry Damayanti began her professional career as a research assistant at the Harvard Institute for International Development (HIID), where she worked from January to August 1989. She subsequently worked as a researcher at the Management Institute of the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia, from August 1989 to August 1990, and at the Centre for Inter-University Economics of the university from August 1993 to August 1995.
Between August 1992 and March 1997, she worked at the Financial and Monetary Analysis Agency (BAKM) of the Ministry of Finance. She subsequently worked as an economist at Citibank Indonesia from April 1997 to May 2000. From 2000 to 2003, she served as Senior Economic Advisor to the British Ambassador to Indonesia.[2]
From 2005 to 2011, Damayanti was Chief Economist at Mandiri Sekuritas. She subsequently served as Chief Economist of Bank Mandiri from 2011 to 2015. During 2014–2015, she also chaired the Economic Task Force of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises.[3]
Lembaga Penjamin Simpanan
Damayanti was appointed a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) on 24 September 2015, following Presidential Decree No. 158/M of 2015 dated 21 September 2015. She served in the position until August 2019.[4]
In May 2015, President Joko Widodo appointed Damayanti as chair of the selection committee for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).[5]
Bank Indonesia
Destry Damayanti was appointed Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia in 2019. She took the oath of office on 7 August 2019 and became the fifth person to hold the position of Senior Deputy Governor.[6]
She served alongside Governor Perry Warjiyo during his tenure as Governor of Bank Indonesia. In addition to her responsibilities as Senior Deputy Governor, she has represented Bank Indonesia in various economic and financial policy discussions.
On 27 July 2026, Governor Perry Warjiyo resigned from his position, citing personal reasons. Following his departure, Damayanti assumed the position of Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia pending the appointment of a permanent successor.
Other activities
Damayanti has been involved in academic and professional activities in addition to her work in the financial sector. At the University of Indonesia, she served as chair of the university's Faculty of Economics and Business alumni association for the 2019–2021 term.
