Dev Varyani
Dev Varyani is an Indian entrepreneur and educational innovator. He is the founder and chairman of the Eureka Africa Group, headquartered in Dubai, which operates educational and training institutions in West Africa.[1]
In 1999, he launched OpenLabs Ghana (formerly NIIT Ghana) to provide digital skills training across the region. The venture later expanded through the Eureka Africa Group into multiple African countries.[2][3]
In 2010, he founded BlueCrest University College in Ghana, which subsequently expanded into Liberia and Sierra Leone.[4] According to FrontPageAfrica, Varyani is credited with establishing the first international IT education center in Accra, training more than 75,000 students across eighteen African countries under his leadership and has been recognized as one of the “Six Strategic Entrepreneurs” shaping higher education in Africa FrontPage Africa.[1]
In 2008, Dev Varyani incorporated Academic City College in Ghana, initially offering distance programs through an affiliation with Sikkim Manipal University. By 2017, the institution evolved into Academic City University College, operating from a purpose-built campus in Haatso. It was officially inaugurated as a university in August 2022, attended by Ghana’s Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.[5] In 2023, Academic City was ranked 15th in Sub-Saharan Africa region and 2nd in Ghana by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.[6]
