Development Initiative for Social Advancement (DISA ) is a non-governmental development organisation in Bangladesh. DISA has been working for the rural people, especially women and children of the poor households of Bangladesh with the objectives of poverty alleviation, awareness building, social violence reduction, and empowerment of women to uplift their socio-economic status with microfinance, livestock development, education, health, skill development programs, and awareness-building activities.
Social development
Along with microfinance, the organization runs social concerns: Aloghar, Aloghar Prakashana, Aloghar Nursery, Matribhumi Dairy Foods Limited (MDFL), DISA Institute of Science & Technology (DIST), Matribhumi Fashion, and DISA Training Centre (DTC).
Agriculture & Livestock
DISA supports marginal farmers for two purposes through Farmers' Organization Sadadal: funding, and treatment knowledge to purchase/rear local and hybrid varieties of cows. The first way is to rear the cows for milking and selling the bulk of milk, and become the cow owner by early paying off the credit. The second way is to purchase and rear the young bulls, fatten them to sell at a higher price, particularly prior to the Eid-ul-Adha Festival.
Education
ALOGHOR (KNOWLEDGE & INFORMATION CENTER)
‘Aloghar’ is one of the most important social initiatives implemented by DISA. ‘Enlightened Bangladesh’ and ‘Book fair in every day, One book for each’ are the slogans of the Aloghar program. It is an awareness building program on Education, Information, Library services and Holistic social development with a sustainable manner. It has been working for green Bangladesh and nutrition through Sabujdal members. The Community libraries were established and implemented by DISA where all services are free of cost.
DISA INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY (DIST)
DISA established DISA Institute of Science & Technology (DIST) in 2017. The main purpose was to conduct updated technical training/education and higher professional courses as well as produce professionally qualified and skilled manpower in the country. DIST is registered by Training Organization, Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB).

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS BANGABANDHU MEMORIAL HIGHER SCHOLARSHIP DISA has given Bangabandhu Memorial Higher Scholarship to Public University students who are the offsprings of DISA microfinance program. This scholarship is given in honor of Mujib Borsho and continues until their educational tenure. ALOGHAR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM DISA has been providing scholarship from 2011 to less privileged students. The students, studying in class eight and class ten who hail from ultra-poor households in the area and also members of Aloghar, are eligible for applying for scholarship.
MICRO-FINANCE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM DISA provides 'Scholarship' for VO members’ children of class viii and x students and disabled students of secondary to above classes from its Security and Welfare Fund.
PKSF SCHOLARSHIP Except for the above scholarships, DISA provides Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Scholarship to HSC students.
Health
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE DISA provides Medical Assistance for its MFP group members and their spouses. Unfortunate sickness and injured persons are given medical expenses from the organization. Noted that, the regular DISA Microfinance Program (MFP) members and their spouse are eligible for such assistance.

DTC
DISA Training Center (DTC) is a wing of DISA working in Bangladesh for Human Resource Development through various capacity-building initiatives which were established in 2010. Previously, the training services of DISA were being provided on a small scale within the premises of DISA Head Office. Then it was called DISA Academy (2010). However, increasing demand from NGOs and the corporate sector influenced the decision to build DISA Training Center (DTC) with a lot more space and resources. In January 2020, DISA Academy was renamed as ‘DISA Training Center (DTC)” and started its journey on a wider scale. DISA Training Center (DTC) is a place for training and lodging in Mirpur–12, Dhaka-1216, which is 5 km far from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
This facility provides two (2) multi-purpose training rooms, 14 A/C rooms (34 capacities) and 1 (one) AC dining room (40 capacities) with adequate space and different food and snacks packages. DTC has been maintaining by a professional team of cook, food and beverage, housekeeping and service delivery to ensure the necessary requirements of guests. Its main services include accommodation arrangement and venue rent for meeting, training, and seminars to national and international NGOs, UN Agencies, Private sector, Government Organization and corporate sector. Special Activities
COVID-19 ACTIVITIES DISA ran 'Supporting Engagement of the Civil Society for Covid-19 Response Activities' project in Dhaka North City Corporation 9, 10 & 11 wards. The project was collaborated by ADAB and financed by WHO. DISA distributed awareness building leaflets, masks, dry food, grocery, dress as well as cash to poor/helpless corona affected people in its working area.
DAY OBSERVATION
DISA observes the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, National Mourning day, Sheikh Russel day, Right to Information day, International Women's day regularly.
BOOK DONATION
DISA distributed Aloghar Prakashana books to different libraries and different organizations' MRA Bangabandhu corner, ADAB corner, schools.

The experience and the lesson learned from cow rearing activities have inspired DISA for undertaking this community based DLDP on a higher scale with bigger capital. The project is expected to be an integrated one, incorporating the current activities in a larger scale. MATRIBHUMI MISTI (SWEETMEAT) DISA initiated Matribhumi Misti for sustaining local milking cow farmers’ business and linking with the market chain. Presently quality sweetmeats and Bakery items are producing and marketing: Doi (Yoghrt), Rasmalai, Spanj Rosgolla, Rosgolla, Chamcham, Chhanamukhi, Creamjam, Chhana Sandesh, Baby Sweet, Rajbhog, Badshabhog, Kalojam, Matha, Gree, milk as well as Bakery items- Biscuit, toast, Cake, Dry Cake, Chanachur, Motor Bhaja, Laccha Senai.
Matribhumi Fashion
For the elegance, dignity & empowerment of women, DISA initiated & established Matribhumi Fashion in February 2017. Ensuring quality products with competent prices, and creating easy access for customers to choose and purchase their desired products were the establishment objectives.

Aloghar Prokashana
Aloghar Publication has been established on 28 Feb, 2014. The main objective is to publish creative books for motivating the community towards books for knowledge and social development information.
Aloghar Nursery
DISA social concern Aloghar Nursery has established in 2017 at Barkait, Chandina, Cumilla. The major production is grafted Amrapali Mango Seedlings. Except seedlings, now different fruits as well as rice are cultivating here.

Locations
Its flat organizational structure consists of four tiers: head office in Dhaka, 5 zonal offices, 20 area offices, and 102 branch offices. The branch offices are the main channel through which their core loan products (Jagoron, Agrosor, Sufolon, Buniad and other MF products) are disbursed. Each of its 102 branches in Bangladesh is a self-sufficient unit, run by: a branch manager, an accounts officer, and some credit officers. The branch manager is allowed to approve all transactions within the branch, provided the guidelines by an operating manual.
