Dgraph is a open-source graph database management system developed by Dgraph Labs and written in Go.[4][5][6] Dgraph uses Raft for shard replication and a custom transactional protocol for snapshot-isolated cross-shard transactions.[7][8][9]

    History[edit]

The first version of Dgraph v0.1 was released in December 2015, and the first production-ready major release with v1.0.0 in December 2017.[10] The project had raised funding during development of that release.[11] Development of all 1.0 versions has stopped in January 2021 as the team is maintaining version 20.0 and later.[12]

In May 2016, Dgraph raised $1.1M Seed funding from Bain Capital, Blackbird Group, Mike Cannon-Brookes, and Mark Cummins ventures.[13][14] In the following year, another seed fund of $1.85M was raised from their previous backers and AirTree ventures.[15][16][17]

In July 2019, Dgraph secured $11.5M Series A funding led by Redpoint Ventures, with participation from their previous backers.[18][19][20]

    Query Language[edit]

The query language of Dgraph, DQL (formerly GraphQL+-)[21], is a variation of GraphQL by Facebook. It has added and removed features from GraphQL to support the graph operations of the graph database. Dgraph also supports an extended GraphQL.[22][23][24] with the addition routines focused on searching and extracting connections. The extension is called DQL.[25]

    Dgraph Labs[edit]

Dgraph is developed by Dgraph Labs, based in the San Francisco Bay Area and Bangalore. Dgraph's board of directors includes Xoogler Manish Jain (Founder/CEO of Dgraph), Salil Deshpande (Partner at Bain Capital), and Satish Dharmaraj (Partner at Redpoint Ventures).[26]

Dgraph Labs is part of the joint development collaboration under the GraphQL Foundation.[27]

    Services[edit]

Dgraph provides a free and open source self-managed plan with a enterprise license. However, a fully managed plan is also provided with two options: Slash GraphQL, which was launched in 2020[28], or Dgraph Cloud.[29]
