Diamanti was founded by veterans from Cisco, Veritas, and VMware to enable enterprise success with container technology that can disrupt CTO and CIO organizations. In general, containers can enable faster application development cycles; however, IT is slowed by current virtualized models built for older generations of applications. Successful container deployments require a robust, proactive approach that aligns business velocity, service levels, and budgets.
Diamanti brought to market the first appliance purpose built for containerized applications, combining hyperconverged infrastructure with the performance and efficiency of bare-metal containers. The company's trademarked phrase is "Dev done fast, Ops done right.™"[1]
Diamanti, a startup, works around balancing networking and storage requirements in the age of containers, emerged from stealth with a new appliance and $12.5 million in Series A funding from a list of investors like Charles River Ventures, DFJ Venture, GSR Ventures, and Goldman Sachs. It also works around containers, whether Docker, Google Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift, and also contributes to open source projects like Kubernetes.
The appliance deals with the throughput problems companies face as they transition from legacy architecture to newer approaches like containerization, which requires to be faster than the older equipment is generally capable of handling. Diamanti’s founders built their appliance to deploy quickly due to that problem to provide the extra horsepower that’s missing in the legacy environment, as the legacy approach could take a long duration.
The developers also created networking and storage hardware which were merged into a single modern box.
“If you look at top problems associated with containers. The two are network and storage.
There is a noisy neighbor issue. Once you get into a situation where containers add more density, they begin to interfere with each other,”[2] Chou explained.
While in stealth, the company has had several Beta customers testing the appliance including NBC Universal. The company is also working on packaging and pricing the products and appliances.
Diamanti, which is not an OpenStack company had a coming out party at the OpenStack Summit in Austin, for the appliance to deploy in OpenStack environments.[2]
