Dimitri Ehrlich
Dimitri Aram Ehrlich is a songwriter, producer, musician, author, screenwriter, and journalist.
Based in New York City, his professional music career began when he signed a publishing contract with Shapiro Bernstein in 2005. Since then, over 60 of his songs have been recorded by major label artists around the world, including Moby, Westlife, Kim Wilde, and B.O.B., including two that went platinum and one gold. Recently Dimitri has had two #1 singles in Japan, a #3 single in Australian club charts and a #11 on the Dutch pop charts. His song "Best Of Me" was included on the #1 album by the winner of Austrian Idol. He also recently wrote the top 40 single for the winner of The Voice in Germany, and his songs have been featured on TV shows including the NBC series "Royal Pains", the CBS series "How I Met Your Mother", and NBC's "Love Monkey", as well as in films including "May The Best Man Win", starring Rob Riggle, and the Universal Pictures' film series "Hanni and Nanni".
As a musician, Dimitri performed with a band under his name, Dimitri Ehrlich, and as Dimitri and the Supreme 5000. With them he released the albums As Nervous As You, Everything Is Naked, and August.
Dimitri is the author of “Move The Crowd: Voices and Faces of the Hip-Hop Nation,” and “Inside the Music: Conversations with Contemporary Musicians about Creativity, Spirituality, and Consciousness.” He also contributed a chapter to “Shiny Adidas Track Suits and the Death of Camp: The Best of Might Magazine”, an anthology edited by Dave Eggers.
Dimitri was head writer for three years of VH1 Hip-Hop Honors, and a writer for many years of the MTV Video Music Awards. Other MTV credits include “The Slim Shady National Convention with Eminem,” “Vote or Die: with P. Diddy,” “50 Cent House Party,” “MTV Movie Awards Great Little Films,” and “Britney Spears: For The Record.” He also wrote the hip-hop entertainment series “The Source: All Access,” and "I Pity the Fool," with Mr. T on TV Land, among other shows. In addition to writing, Ehrlich has also appeared as on-air host of “Sonic Cinema” on the Sundance Channel, and was head writer and—along with Janeane Garofalo—co-host of MTV's Indie Outing.
Dimitri’s articles have appeared in the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Spin, Details, Vibe, New York, Arena Homme Plus, The London Observer, and Interview Magazine where he was an editor for many years.
Dimitri was raised on a macrobiotic commune. He has studied Tibetan Buddhism and Chinese martial arts for more than 25 years, and has taught martial arts in New York City for thirty years. Dimitri is a senior student of Gelek Rimpoche. [1]
His travel writings include sojourns to Tibet, Cuba, India, Cambodia, China, Nepal, and the Amazon rainforest.
