The Disney Tribute Circle is a non-profit social-musical initiative in Israel, dedicated to public singing as a heartfelt tribute to songs from Walt Disney Studio's animated films. Founded by Daniel Yosef Abdo on August 7, 2017, the circle aims to create a social platform for collective singing of Disney songs.
People are invited to join the circle and enjoy Disney music in a delightful and inclusive environment. The public singing is led by a band during large gatherings and by community members during street circles, mostly in Hebrew, but participants are welcome to sing in their preferred language. Organizers provide song sheets and other materials to help participants sing together, making the events accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds.
The circle places a strong emphasis on community and values its participants at the center.
History
The first street circle event took place at Zion Square in Jerusalem in August 2017. The initial street circle was successful, leading to the establishment of additional street circles that quickly gained popularity.
In December of the same year, the circle expanded, holding its first large-scale event with amplification, a screen, and projector at the First Station in Jerusalem. Since then, a total of eight large-scale events have been held, each attracting thousands of participants.
These events rapidly became a popular tradition in Jerusalem, and throughout Israel, drawing people from across the country to join together and celebrate their love for Disney music. The circle evolved into a large community with various shared interests. Over the years, many couples who met through the circle have also tied the knot, turning the circle's events into beloved occasions that provide enjoyable and inclusive experiences for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Throughout its existence, the circle has hosted half-yearly events, collaborating with the Gelada Penguin ice cream chain and participating in the Icon Festival and Worlds Festival in Tel Aviv.
On December 15, 2022, the circle held its first large-scale event at Cinema City in Jerusalem, and it will continue with its tenth event on August 10, 2023.
Additionally, street circles are occasionally held, usually at Zion Square in Jerusalem, to preserve the tradition of the initial street circles and to maintain a connection with the public.
Name Meaning
The name "circle" is inspired by the Round Table of King Arthur's knights, where everyone sits in an equal manner next to each other.
The term "Tribute to Disney" indicates the circle's purpose, emphasizing that it is not directly associated with Disney films or the Disney company, but rather serves as a tribute to them.
