The Divine Symphony Orchestra (D.S.O) formerly known as D.K.O Symphony Orchestra was established on the 6th of March, 2007 by a group of seven young talented musicians at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries International Headquarter. D.S.O started as a string ensemble and then went through a process of rapid development whereby other instrument families such as the woodwinds and brass were included until it became a Chamber Orchestra and eventually a full-blown Symphony Orchestra.

History and Background[edit]

D.S.O is fully and solely sponsored by the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries worldwide, Daniel Olukoya, whom the Orchestra was formerly named after. At the initial stage, lots of instruments were missing such as the oboe, piccolo, bassoon, french horn, timpani, e.t.c. so other instruments were used to adapt to the missing ones. But with the support of Dr Daniel k. Olukoya, all these instruments were purchased for the orchestra and with time, dedicated and talented members of the orchestra took it upon themselves to learn how to play these instruments on their own and today all these instruments and their players are present and the orchestra is qualified to be called a Symphony Orchestra.

Divine Symphony Orchestra has over 80 members and has performed World Class Repertoires including works like Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance, Beethoven's 5th and 9th Symphony, Rossini’s William Tell Overture (last movement), Schubert’s Symphony No. 5 in B minor, Jazz suite by Shostakovich, Mozart’s Symphony 40, Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E flat, and so much more.

Divine Symphony Orchestra remains one of the largest standard Symphony Orchestra in Nigeria with an international recognition. At the 2015 Stellenbosch international chamber music festival in South Africa, Members of D.S.O after an audition process were qualified to play principal parts at various sections of the Festival Orchestra. D.S.O also staged a 45 minutes standard concert at Fismer Hall, Stellenbosch University during the music festival.

Divine Symphony Orchestra has staged several concerts both in Nigeria and South Africa. [1]
