Obi’s House is a cultural movement and event series founded by Nigerian DJ Obi during the COVID-19 pandemic.[1]
History
It initially started as a virtual event where DJ Obi hosted live sessions to engage audiences during lockdowns. As restrictions eased,[2] it transitioned into a physical gathering and became a regular feature in Lagos’ nightlife. By 2022, Obi’s House had established a weekly residency at Hard Rock Café in Lagos, with attendance reportedly exceeding 2,000 people per event. [3]
Background
Obi’s House began as an exclusive nightlife experience, attracting a diverse crowd of music lovers, industry professionals, and celebrities.[4] Over time, it evolved into a staple event in Lagos, offering live performances, DJ sets, and an energetic atmosphere that reflects Nigeria’s dynamic entertainment scene.[5]
The event has served as a platform for African music, fashion, and dance, showcasing emerging artists and new music. Songs such as “Ojapiano” by Kcee were introduced to audiences at Obi’s House, reflecting its role in music promotion.[6] In September 2022, Foodie in Lagos rated the venue 7/10.[7]
Locations
Initially held in Lagos, Obi’s House has expanded to other locations, including Abuja, London and other venues.[8] In July 2023, Obi’s House hosted an event in London, featuring performances by artists including DJ Dope Caesar and Afro-fusion singer BNXN.[9]
Notable Figures
Various Nigerian artists and entertainers have been associated with Obi’s House, either as performers, attendees, or collaborators; they include Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Timaya and others.[10]
In December 2024, Tyla, Tems, Ayra Starr, Rema alongside others attended Obi’s house event.[11][12]
