Ultimate Fighting Championship[edit]
In 2016, Smolyakov signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He made his debut against Luis Henrique at UFC on Fox: Holm vs. Shevchenko on July 13, 2016. He lost the fight via a rear-naked choke submission in the second round.[2]
In his second fight for the promotion, Smolyakov faced Cyril Asker at UFC Fight Night: Rodríguez vs. Penn on January 15, 2017. He lost the fight via TKO in the first round.[3]
Return to UFC[edit]
After two years away from the company, Smolyakov returned to face Greg Hardy on April 27, 2019 at UFC Fight Night: Jacaré vs. Hermansson.[4] He lost the fight via TKO in the first round.[5]
Smolyakov received a two-year USADA ban after testing positive for recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO) and intact human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in two out-of-competition tests on April 22, and April 27, 2019. The ban was retroactive to April 22, 2019.[6] On May 28, 2019, it was reported that Smolyakov had been released by the UFC.[7]
