Dominic Muns is a British local politician who has served as a Conservative councillor on Wiltshire Council representing The Lavingtons since 2021.[1]
Political career
Muns was elected to Wiltshire Council for The Lavingtons, a council division 5 miles south of Devizes, during the 2021 local elections.[1]
Following his election in May 2021, Muns was appointed as the council’s portfolio holder for Education and Skills during which time he worked closely with local schools.[2]
In March 2024, Muns was appointed to Wiltshire Council's Cabinet with responsibility for Environment and Waste. During this period he featured in council announcements relating to waste enforcement, recycling policy changes, and trials of electric refuse collection vehicles.[3][4][5]
In March 2025, Muns attracted local media attention during a full council meeting when he stated he would be sending a cease-and-desist letter to the chair of the Wiltshire Green Party, Catherine Read, regarding false claims made in a Green Party local election leaflet. He said the leaflet contained inaccurate assertions and that he was seeking a retraction and apology, a dispute reported by the Wiltshire Times.[6]
In early 2025, Muns was a member of the council cabinet when Wiltshire Council formally resolved to oppose the proposed Lime Down Solar Park development. The cabinet agreed with officers’ recommendations that development consent should not be granted in its current form following public consultation.[7]
In mid-2025 Muns was appointed as Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group on Wiltshire Councillor.
In May 2025, Muns was elected chair of the Devizes Area Board for the 2025–26 civic year.[8]
In January 2026, he was quoted in reporting on a Wiltshire Council debate concerning proposals linked to the St Stephen’s Place car park redevelopment in Trowbridge, during which he raised concerns about financial transparency. The debate was covered by the Warminster Journal as part of its Local Democracy Reporter service. Muns stated in the council chamber that he had been threatened with a defamation lawsuit following his public scrutiny of the deal.[9]
Personal life and local roles
Outside of his duties on Wiltshire Council, Muns is also a parish councillor in West Lavington. According to the West Lavington Parish Council’s “Meet Your Councillors” page, he grew up in Marlborough and moved to West Lavington with his wife and two children in 2016.[10]
A profile on the Easterton Parish Council’s website similarly states that Muns grew up in Marlborough before relocating to West Lavington with his family, citing the local countryside and community as reasons for settling there.[11]
