Don't Breathe 2 is an upcoming American horror thriller film directed by Rodo Sayagues, produced by Fede Álvarez, Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert and Sayagues, and co-written by Álvarez and Sayagues. The film will serve as a sequel to the 2016 film, with Stephen Lang returning to reprise his original role as Norman Nordstrom / "The Blind Man".

The film will be released in 2021, by Screen Gems, Stage 6 Films, Ghost House Pictures, Good Universe and Sony Pictures Releasing.

Premise[edit]

In Don't Breathe 2, the Blind Man has been hiding out for years in an isolated cabin and has taken in and raised a young girl orphaned from a house fire. Their quiet existence is shattered when a group of kidnappers show up and take the girl, forcing the Blind Man to leave his safe haven to save her.^[1]^[2]

Development[edit]

In November 2016, writer Fede Álvarez announced that a sequel was in the works, returning as director.^[4] Producer Sam Raimi was quoted saying, "It's only the greatest idea for a sequel I've ever heard. I'm not kidding."^[5] In November 2018, Álvarez announced the script for the sequel was complete.^[6]^[7] In January 2020, Álvarez was replaced as director by co-writer Rodo Sayagues, making his directorial debut.^[3]

Filming[edit]

Principal photography was scheduled to begin in April 2020, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.^[3]^[8]^[9] Filming officially began in mid-August 2020, shooting for 12 weeks,^[10]^[11]^[12]^[13] in areas around Serbia, including the capital city of Belgrade.^[14]^[15] On October 8, Stephen Lang revealed that the film had finished filming.^[16]^[17]

Release[edit]

Don't Breathe 2 is scheduled to be theatrically released in 2021, by Sony Pictures Releasing.^[18]
