Donald Trump's Wisconsin Tele-Rally
Date | July 17, 2020 |
---|---|
Location | Wisconsin U.S. |
Type | Teleconference |
Organised by | Donald Trump |
U.S. President Donald Trump held a teleconference "rally" in Wisconsin, his first rally to not be held in person. The rally was noteable for being held via a teleconference, rather then in person for the first time, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, while his other rallies and events held during the pandemic considered by many to not be a good idea. Trump claims the reason for hosting the rally via teleconference is that the pandemic has made holding large in person rallies difficult and contributed to low turnout at his two previous rallies held amid the COVID-19 pandemic.[1]
Speech[edit]
—Trump on holding teleconference "rallies" until there is a vaccine for COVID-19[2]
Trump spoke for about 23 minutes. He opened the speech by claiming China could have stopped the virus. "We have a COVID problem, COVID-19 problem. As you know, I call it the China virus. It shouldn't have happened but it did. They could have stopped it, but I wanted to be with you, and this is really replacing our rallies that we all love so much." He did not address the high active cases of covid in the country (the highest in the world) at the time.[3]
