Donald Trump is the Wikipedia article about Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States. The article is a biography[1] of him that was created on January 9, 2004 by MarcPrux. The article was first protected on December 16, 2006 by Nishkid64 due to vandalism from IP address at the time. The article was first extended-confirmed protected on November 9, 2016 by Ks0stm due to vandalism from auto-confirmed users at the time. The article was the ninth longest article on English Wikipedia.[2] The article first surpassed 500,000 bytes on October 7, 2020.[1] The article has been indefinitely extended-confirmed protected.

Media coverage[edit]

The article has received media coverage from multiple notable sources. On January 22, 2016, The New York Observer reported that the article was the busiest of the 2016 US presidential candidates.[3] The article was reported on February 1, 2016, by The New York Times, reporting that the article usually attracted more views than his Republican rivals.[4] On September 25, 2016, a sample of the article was noted in a report of Business Insider, where it reported that the article subject was one of the 29 most controversial people on Wikipedia according to the news website.[5] On October 12, 2016, The New York Observer reported that the article entry was bulkier than either George Bush article or Barack Obama article.[6] On October 27, 2016, the article was noted in a report of The Washington Post, where it reported that the article had more than three times the number of edits than Hillary Clinton since January 2015.[7]

The article was the second most edited English Wikipedia article of 2016. It was reported by Billboard,[8] PCMag,[9] The Verge,[10] and others. The article was the second most viewed English Wikipedia article of 2017, at 29.6 million views. It was reported by Mashable,[11] Newshub,[12] VentureBeat,[13] and others. In 2018, the article was covered for image vandalism.[14]

In 2019, InsideHook reported that the article was one of the most popular pages on the Internet.[15]

Criticism[edit]

On May 14, 2020, Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger said that the idea that the Donald Trump article is neutral is a joke. Sanger opined in 2020 that the reliability of the project was diminished by cognitive bias, comparing his interpretation of a positive tone on Barack Obama with a negative tone on Donald Trump.[16]

Vandalism[edit]

On July 22, 2015, the article content was replaced with "Let's be fair, nobody cares about him."[17][18] by Trampster1442, and it was reverted by Sjö. On May 25, 2016, the article lead was replaced with "LOLOLOLOL" and most of the article content was removed[7] by Planecrashexpert, and it was reverted by OcarinaOfTime. On November 11, 2016, the article was vandalized twice by a member of OurMine using Jimbo Wales account with edit summary "Rank". The revisions were reverted by Zupotachyon and they were revision deleted.

Image vandalism[edit]

On November 21, 2018, the article was vandalized with an image of a penis. The image vandalism was successful that it was revealed by Siri.[14]
