Donna "Keegan" Avery (born Donna Marie Keegan, November 25, 1959) is a boxing manager and former stunt performer and coordinator. In January 2015, a boxer managed by Keegan Avery, Chris van Heerden[1] beat Cecil McCalla and won the IBF International Welterweight title during "Throne Boxing" at Madison Square Garden, Roc Nation Sports' debut event.[2]

Early life[edit]

Keegan was raised in a middle-class Irish family in the small town of Laurence Harbor, New Jersey. There she attended Memorial Elementary School and Number Elementary School (the same 4 room school house her father attended, with the same first grade teacher, Mrs. Pappa). Keegan then went on to Sayreville War Memorial High School and later graduated from Cedar Ridge High School.

Career[edit]

Keegan is the CEO of Check 6 Productions with talent and athlete management departments. Keegan has written, produced and directed several music videos including The Inkspots, Purple Rain on BET and on Entertainment Tonight celebrating Black History Month. Keegan directed President George H. W. Bush in the White House for the Straight Holiday Telethon. She was executive producer of The Ghost, a feature film starring Michael Madsen, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and Richard Hatch.[3] Along with director Rick Avery she was awarded for the documentary Raiders Remembered at the NY Film Festival. She is the producer of HardKnocks: Interviews With Icons, producer and host of The Adventure Chef,[4] producer and director of Gnarly Days.

Keegan spent thirty years in the field of stunt work, as both as performer and coordinator. She possesses a few hundred credits, including True Lies, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Angels and Demons, and The Aviator. She has doubled for over 100 actresses including Jaime Lee Curtis, Amanda Peet, Sharon Stone, Kelly McGillis, Debi Mazar, Raquel Welch, Kate Capshaw, and Nicolette Sheridan. She received the Diamond in the Raw Action Icon Award in 2009.[5]

She is a member of the Directors Guild of America Women's Committee, Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Women in Film and Television International, and past American Film Institute Associate. She received her certification as chef from the California branch of Le Cordon Bleu. Among her other past accomplishments: Dept. Head of Celebrity Products division of Home Shopping Network which was based out of Hollywood, in the HSN Entertainment, CEO of Celebrity Advantage, and International Springboard and Tower Diving Champion. Donna served as Screen Actors Guild Board Member and was appointed for two consecutive terms a National Chairperson for Stunts and Safety, served over ten years on the AMPTP/SAG Labor Management Safety Bulletin Committee, and works as an expert witness when injury or death occurs on the film set.

Keegan Avery made her boxing managerial debut bringing Israel Isaac Duffus from Panama in January 2014, after working with him in 2013 on the set of Hands of Stone. In 2014, she took to managing Chris Van Heerden.

Keegan Avery lives with her husband in the Los Angeles area. In addition to boxers, she manages actor Gary J. Clayton and aerial coordinator, director, and stuntman Rick Avery.
