Doriance Price (born 20 August 1977) is an American former mixed martial arts and current Muay Thai fighter. He was a contestant on the show The Ultimate Fighter 6 in which he was selected on Team Hughes.[1] He is the only fighter who has fought at the highest level in both sports having fought both in Lumpinee Boxing Stadium[2] and the Ultimate Fighting Championship.[1]

He is currently known for being the striking coach of current UFC star Matt Brown.[3]

Background[edit]

Price began his journey into Martial Arts in 1997 when he enetered the Linxx Academy in Virginia Beach and took up the sport of Muay Thai. With little money at the time he would agree to pay for his training by cleaning the gym after classes.[4]

After six months of training he had his first fight winning against a tough fighter from "The Wat" in New York City. After fighting the local circuit Price began training in Mixed Martial Arts earning a purple belt under the tutelage of Dave Branch.[5] He was the owner of an 8-3 record on the local MMA circuit before being given the opportunity to compete as a member of Spike TV's The Ultimate Fighter.

The Ultimate Fighter[edit]

In 2007 Price was selected as a contestant on the UFC produced series The Ultimate Fighter for the sixth season The Ultimate Fighter: Team Hughes vs. Team Serra. He was selected as a member of Team Hughes.[1]

Price faced Matt Arroyo in the third bout of the series and lost the fight by submission. He became a memorable contestant due to his altercation with a cameraman but made good friends and was bought back on the season finale to face Roman Mitichyan.

As a member of Team Hughes, Price received more attention for a confrontation with a cameraman during filming in Las Vegas than for his loss to Matt Arroyo on the show. But he learned a lot about the fight game, made some friends, and on the season finale show in December 2007, he was brought back to face Roman Mitichyan.[6]

Journey to Thailand[edit]

Price decided that he wished to pursue his true passion which was Muay Thai [7] and in 2011 was offered a sponsorship by a well known Muay Thai gym in Phuket, Thailand.[8]

After numerous high profile victories around the local circuit he was offered a once in a lifetime opportunity by the famed Sitmonchai Gym in which he became the first ever foreign fighter to be sponsored by the gym.[6]

Coaching career[edit]

Price is the current striking coach of UFC star Matt Brown and has been heavily involved in the careers of UFC prospect Brendan O'Reilly as well as up and coming Spanish fighter Juan Espino.
