Douglas Nqobile Nyaupembe (born 2 October 1999) is a footballer who plays as a defender for Stalybridge Celtic. He played for Bury[1] until the end of the 2018–19 season. Having joined Bury as an under-13 player,[4] he progressed through the club's youth teams and captained the team which won the Lancashire Senior Cup in 2018.[5]

Club career[edit]

Nyaupembe made his first team debut for Bury on 5 May 2018 when he was a 65th minute substitute in the EFL League One match against A.F.C. Wimbledon.[6] He signed a professional contract with Bury later in the month.[7] In the 2018–19 season, he was selected in the starting line-up for the EFL Trophy match against Leicester City U-21 on Tuesday, 16 October, playing on the right side of midfield.[8] He then joined Hyde United from 2 November 2018 on a short-term development loan.[9] He played in one match for Hyde, against Marine,[5] and returned to Bury in December before commencing his loan to Stalybridge on 11 January 2019.[5][10][11]

He joined Radcliffe in January 2020.[12]

He re-joined Stalybridge Celtic for the 2021–22 season, leaving the club in November 2021.[11]

International career[edit]

Nyaupembe holds a Zimbabwean passport.[13]

In September 2019 he was called up by the Zimbabwe Football Association to play for the Zimbabwe national under-23 football team for the AFCON U23 and Olympic qualifier against South Africa.[14] He failed to make the match, reported as stranded in England due to a problem with late confirmation of his travel ticket.[15]

In October he was called up for the Zimbabwe national football team for the training camp and squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification Group H matches against Botswana and Zambia in November 2019.[16][17] The ZIFA subsequently withdrew the offer to various British based players due to financial constraints.[18]
