About Dr. Ananth Prabhu G[edit]

Dr. Ananth Prabhu Gurpur (born 3 October 1985) is a Professor in Computer Engineering at the Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangaluru[1]. He helped establish the Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security and Forensics at Sahyadri College, Mangalore in Coastal Karnataka, India.

Ananth is the author of several books focussing on self-development and self-help genres besides the Cybersafe Girl[2] and Glorious Bharat Series (Part 1 - 3)[3]. Cyber Safe Girl V3 is a collection of 30 prevalent and popular cybercrimes, the precautions one can take, the relevant cyber law and sections applicable for the crimes under the Indian Penal Code, IT Act and other relevant acts, and tips to browse the internet safely and responsibly[4]. This portal also offers a certificate course which can be revalidated every year.[5][6]

Ananth is also a Cyber Law Trainer at the Karnataka Judicial Academy, Bengaluru, India and Cyber Security Trainer at the Karnataka Police Academy, Mysuru, India.

Early Life[edit]

Ananth Prabhu grew up in Mangaluru, a district in Coastal Karnataka in a traditional middle-class Hindu family. His father is a retired banker and his mother is a Homemaker. He did his primary schooling at Rosario English Medium School, Mangaluru. He completed his High School and Pre University Course at St Aloysius College Mangalore. Ananth was proficient in academics and designed his own computer games from the age of 9 along with his two friends- Jayanth Kannan and Prashanth Kannan. He is also a trained tabla player - a classical Indian musical instrument. Ananth Prabhu graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. He then went on to do an MBA in Information Technology and MTech in Computer Engineering from the Manipal University. He also holds a Diploma in Cyber Law from Government Law College, Mumbai and a PhD (Doctor in Philosophy) in Computer Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. He further completed his Postdoctoral Studies from the University of Houston, Texas.

In 2009, along with a friend Paritosh Vyas, he developed a website smsindia4blood which connected blood donors across India through an SMS request message. The project helped many to connect to the blood donors during emergencies and this initiative was appreciated by Shri L.K. Advani, the former Deputy Prime Minister of India. [7] [8]

Career[edit]

In 2009, Ananth joined Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management in the Department of Business Administration and is now serving as the Professor in the Department of Computer Science. He is also the Principal Investigator of the Center of Excellence for Cyber Security and Forensics an institution funded by VGST, Government of Karnataka, India.[9]

He started writing books on self-help, self-development genre to guide the youth, students, and the future generation through his works and motivating them. His first bestseller was ‘Little Black Book for Students’ followed by other books as detailed in the Bibliography below.

His bestseller, ‘Little Black Book for Teachers’ was released by Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman, Finance Minister of India in a function attended by many dignitaries including Shri Nalin Kumar Kateel[10] [11]

In an interactive exchange with the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi in Mangalore, Dr. Prabhu also presented a copy of his book ‘ Little Black Book for Teachers’ to him.[12]

I Own the Monk's Ferrari, a self-help book about striking the correct work-life balance and including a spiritual search/aspect was released in 2017 by Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.[13][14]

Since 2011, he has been training the Law Enforcement Agencies in Karnataka. He has conducted over 2000 workshops on the topics:
