DriveWorks is a Design Automation application that uses rules to automate the generation of CAD data.
History
DriveWorks was first made available in 2001 as an application for Design Automation. The software is developed by a company of the same name, DriveWorks Ltd, led by Glen Smith and Maria Sarkar. [1] The company is headquartered in Warrington, United Kingdom, and the software is distributed globally.
Functionality is split out into separate DriveWorks products to match the complexity, scale, and deployment of tasks performed. The products are known as DriveWorksXpress, DriveWorks Solo, and DriveWorks Pro.
DriveWorks is a business to business, knowledge based engineering application used predominantly by manufacturing companies. The software is used for design automation, product configuration, business process automation and as a CPQ solution. Users embed design know-how, rules, and business logic into the Windows-based application. Once set up, automation routines and custom-created configurators can be run on any Windows device, or in a browser on mobile devices. The software is built on top of the DriveWorks proprietary rules engine, form designer, 3D, workflow, and CAD automation.
DriveWorksXpress was first released in 2003. It has been included in the SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD application as component technology since 2008. [2]
DriveWorks Solo was first released in 2009. [3]
DriveWorksXpress and DriveWorks Solo can be used for Design Automation.
DriveWorks Pro can also be used independently of any CAD tool. In addition to design automation, it can be used for sales and product configuration, sometimes referred to as CPQ, as well as business process automation.
DriveWorks is Certified as a SOLIDWORKS Gold Partner Product. [4]
