Dubophonic is an independent record label based in Nicosia, Cyprus,[1] founded by Dub Thomas.[2]
The label retains focus on reggae and dub music and all its sub genres (e,g. dubtronica, psydub, bass) in its most diverse forms, whether digital or organic, roots reggae or steppers, classic or contemporary, defining its own musical style.
They started releasing music as a netlabel back in 2013 distributing mainly freely downloadable Creative Commons licensed music on the internet. While most of the releases are still given out for free, a very few are available as paid downloads or as limited edition cds.[3] You may see no big names in their catalog, but that is the idea behind Dubophonic: to promote and help new artists and spread their works to the people.
Dubophonic is not just a music label but a family of artists supporting each other, with bonds that overcome any geographical, cultural or racial obstacles, Artists, players of instruments and producers from diferrent countries from all around the globe use the label as a melting pot to collaborate, fuse musical ideas and to share them with the listeners.[4]
The label's music has been aired on radio stations like KFAI Minneapolis KBCS, Bellevue[5] or WPRB New Jersey and have received positive reviews and critical acclaim from music critics and press.[6]
In addition to music publishing, Dubophonic is also involved in events promotion in Cyprus[7] and collaborates with the Reggae Sunjam festival.[8]
