Dustin W. Benge is an American theologian and church historian. He is associate professor of Biblical Spirituality and Historical Theology at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY[1] where he is also Director of The Andrew Fuller Center for Baptist Studies.[2] He has served as a the provost and professor at Union School of Theology in Bridgend, Wales and Oxford, England,[3] and is currently the Vice President of Communications and associate professor of Biblical Spirituality and Historical Theology, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.[4]

Early life and education[edit]

Benge was born on May 24, 1981, and grew up in London, Kentucky. He announced a calling to preach at an early age and received his B.A. from Clear Creek Baptist Bible College and M.Div. and Ph.D. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he studied under Dr. Michael A.G. Haykin. Benge's Ph.D. research focused on the theology and writings of Jonathan Edwards. His thesis was entitled, "Nobles and Barons of the Court of Heaven": A Survey of Angelology from the Patristic Era to the Eighteenth Century with Particular Emphasis Given to Jonathan Edwards. Benge currently serves as the Vice President of Communications and associate professor of Biblical Spirituality and Historical Theology, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.[5] Benge's research emphasis is seventeenth-century English and American Puritanism.

Benge was licensed for ministry on April 17, 1996, and ordained for ministry on June 29, 2003.[6]

Ministry[edit]

For several years, Benge was involved in pastoral ministry in Kentucky and Alabama.[7] Benge serves as a Director and Senior Fellow of The Andrew Fuller Center for Baptist Studies and Vice President of Communications and managing editor of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary magazine at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary,[8] Louisville, Kentucky. In addition, he is visiting professor at Munster Bible College[9], Cork, Ireland, and Associate Editor of Expositor Magazine with OnePassion Ministries.[10]

Additionally, Benge has written numerous books[11][12], articles, and produces a podcast titled, Walking Worthy.[13] He contributes to academic and theological articles to publications such as Tabeltalk,[14] Ligonier Ministries, The Southern Baptist Journal of Theology,[15] Reformation21,[16] and the Aquila Report.[17] He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society.
