Dwight School Seoul was chosen in 2010 from over 180 foreign schools by the Government of Seoul, Korea, to open as a model IB School for five hundred forty students in grades K-12. Opened in the Autumn 2012, the school is housed within a new multimillion-dollar media and culture complex, Seoul's Digital Media City.[1]
Dwight's commitment to the IB Programme ensures academic excellence goes hand in hand with service learning and leadership training. Through academic, civic, team, and individual exploration, students develop valuable leadership skills. They perform local and global community service that will help them succeed in the next phase of their lives as students, community members, and world leaders.
Dwight's world-class education rests on three pillars: personalized learning, community, and global vision. Since opening in 2012, Dwight School Seoul is the only school in Seoul accredited by both the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and Council of International Schools (CIS).[2]
Dwight School Seoul was the first international school to open an innovative technology lab, equipped with 3D printers, woodworking, computer programming and a robotics lab. Parents of students are also invited to join activities on designated days.
Music, art, travel and nature trips are part of Dwight’s education program to ensure that every student can connect with something that sparks their passion to learn. Dwight musicians have an annual performance at the Carnegie Hall and performances at prestigious events such as the British Chamber of Commerce Garden Party, and recently at Dwight’s graduation with US Ambassador Harry Harris in attendance.[3]
With Tom Ferguson as the new head of the school,[4] Dwight Seoul is considered leading the International Baccalaureate Curriculum -- now being adopted by more and more local state schools[5] -- in Korea.
Dwight Schools Global Network[edit]
The Dwight Schools are an international network of campuses and programs, which include Dwight School in New York, Dwight Global Online School, Dwight School London in England, the Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School, in Shanghai, China, Dwight School Seoul, and Dwight School Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
