Dylan Mulvaney (born December 29, 1996, in San Diego, California, United States of America) is a transgender actress known for her TikTok series named Days of Girlhood.[1] Mulvaney has covered her transition in Days of Girlhood. As of September 2022, she has over 7 million followers on TikTok.[2] Her Days of Girlhood series have received over 900 million views. She currently lives in Los Angeles. Mulvaney uses she/they pronouns.[3]

Mulvaney graduated from Cincinnati Conservatory.[4] She came out as a trans woman during the COVID-19 pandemic.[4]

Early life[edit]

Mulvaney was assigned male at birth.[5] She was born on December 29, 1996, in San Diego, California.

She began her professional acting career in 2015. Mulvaney first significant role was in the musical Book of Mormon.[6]

Days of Girlhood[edit]

Mulvaney has documented her transition journey in a daily series of TikTok videos.[7] Dylan said in an interview "When the pandemic hit, I was doing the Broadway musical Book of Mormon. I found myself jobless and without the creative means to do what I loved. I downloaded TikTok, assuming it was a kids’ app. Once I came out as a woman, I made this “day one of being a girl” comedic video. And it blew up. I really don’t know another place online like TikTok that can make a creator grow at the rate that it does. Some of these other apps really celebrate perfection and over-editing and flawlessness. I think with TikTok specifically, people love the rawness. They love people just talking to the camera. I try to approach every video like a FaceTime with a friend."[1]

Criticism[edit]

Dylan Mulvaney's Days of Girlhood has been extensively criticised by conservative critics for appropriating womanhood and treating her gender transition as a form of a human costume.[8][9] Members of the LGBT community have dismissed such criticisms as rooted in transphobia.[10][11][12]

Meeting with President Joe Biden[edit]

In October 2022, Mulvaney met with United States President Joe Biden. When asked by Mulvaney about anti-transgender laws Biden described them as immoral.[13]
