Promo Kingz promoted the sell out Kings & Queens of Comedy tours in multiple markets for Walter Latham's, Latham Entertainment company who launched the careers of Bernie Mac, Steve Harvey, and Mo'Nique.[3] The releases, The Original Kings of Comedy, Queens of Comedy, Latham Entertainment Presents, and Martin Lawrence "Run Tel Dat" have grossed more than $200 million worldwide.[4]

Early life[edit]

Duke Mareno was born in Detroit, Michigan, to a musical family in both gospel and secular where he was raised in a single-parent home with his mother, grandmother, uncles and siblings whom lived three houses down from Ms. Rosa Parks. From childhood, he listened to the old school albums of all the motown greats and others that produced feel good music since the late 50's, since his father was a famous disc Jockey from Chicago by the name of Tiger Dan Who moved to Detroit, Michigan. In 1987, Duke, his brothers and friends created a vocal musical group who turned into a rap/hip hop group named the Lost Boyz that was managed by their uncle in partnership with Detroit Pistons NBA Legend John Salley. After several months of a deal not breaking through the group split up and Duke then formed Twisted Myndz with his brother and 3 childhood friends in search of a better life looking to be signed by So So Def that turned into a soft rejection and rip-off when So So Def used original music from Twisted Myndz for the hit song performed by Escape. As high school dropouts at the ages of 17 the group furthered their education by obtaining their GED's, that's when Duke Mareno education journey took off. Guided by his own passion for music, movies, business and entertainment, Duke dropped out of Wayne State University at age 19 to start a promotion and entertainment company and locally produced weekly open mic and poetry shows with hosts such as Knowledge Born, L'Renee and Leaf Erikson.[5][6] Later he went back to school attending University of Michigan College to only cease schooling to pursue his musical career further. Duke then founded the companies Promo Kingz and LaFamilia Group Management with a $15000 savings loan and the support of his mother and grandmother. His first show failed because the Dj he booked failed to show up. Duke did not let this setback deter him. He went on to produce many highly successful open mic and poetry events across the state, then decided to learn the ropes by working with Walter Latham whom fired his entire promotion detail to give this young entrepreneur a chance to make his mark in the entertainment industry.
